Our Philosophy
We combine both the time tested methods of caring and support with the latest in research proven skills and techniques to help individuals, couples and families achieve greater degrees of closeness, intimacy, personal meaning and fulfillment. Its our belief that when people come to therapy the process of change is two fold. Firstly the personal relationship with the therapist is key. As counselors we seek to create an environment that is accepting, secure, objective, and yet challenging. We believe in the client(s) potential to overcome longstanding barriers that have prevented him/her the experience of being content individually and in relationships. Providing a client with a genuine sense of being known, validated and encouraged creates an atmosphere where he or she is more likely to explore emotions, behaviors and possibilities that previously may have been unknown, avoided or considered impossible. Therapists have long known that a secure base and trusting connection is necessary for growth and exploration.
Talk and validation aren’t enough however. As therapists we also have to know how to guide. We believe the second key ingredient to change is the therapist’s intelligent use of research science to help guide individuals, couples, and families to experiences different than what they’ve been used to. At the end of the day change always boils down to thinking, feeling, and behaving differently, and so the use of evidenced based skills and techniques becomes a second vital component for change. As a practice we take seriously our ongoing education, reading and professional training so that we are current with the latest research on supporting personal change. This of course helps up be in the best possible position to coach individuals, couples and families on the skills, techniques and practices known to increase health and functioning. Taken together we bring science to the art of caring.
